BuffBob

One of my favorite bloopers. Back in the early days of kids shows they were live and when a kid said something out of the ordinary, funny things would happen. Note Buffalo Bob’s delayed reaction.

BingC

In the early days of records they didn’t have tape recorders, they recorded their music directly to a master record they could stamp out copies from. The process was very time consuming so when things went wrong it was expensive. When you change a song around it is best to also tell the singer. Bing Crosby tells the producers about his disappointment in the lyrics. THIS IS RARE. I have not heard it anywhere else.
Warning: Bing Uses God’s Name In Vain among other things.

Frank

Even the chairman of the board has trouble once in a while. When it happens he blames it on drinking.

mischer_don_02

This actually happen on TV but you didn’t see anything. During the 2004 Democratic National Convention when the big finish takes place John Kerry is nominated to run as the Democrap candidate and as John Kerry raises his hands in victory there is music and cheering and you overhear producer Don Mischer yelling out in a panic drop the balloons drop the &%$$# balloons. Now these words are suppose to be in the talk back system but some how they bleed through to over the air on national TV. Listen for &%$$# uncensored for your enjoyment.

paulharvey1

Sometimes the laughs come at the very worst time.
Paul Harvey does his catchy opening and then cues the booth announcer who is suppose to be reading a serious Public Service Announcement, but can’t keep from laughing from Paul’s opener.

frankenstein

One common blooper happens because someone punked a coworker. Listen to the explanation on the recording. Nothing like scaring the crap out of one of those proper Oxford type announcers.

caseykasem

I was never a Casey Kasem fan. This guy needed an ego adjustment. America’s Top 40 tried to have a clean wholesome image. I get the feeling Casey wasn’t quite so wholesome. I also think he was difficult to work with.
Warning: Casey uses nearly every cuss word there is.

brinkley

David Brinkley, a news anchor veteran, who should know that no matter what you are thinking, the microphone could be listening. David thinks they are on
a station break, and he is giving his real opinion about Bill Clinton returning to the White House for a second term. Warning: David Uses God’s Name In Vain.

BBC

I don’t understand the game of Cricket at all but when one of those proper BBC chaps screws up and gets tickled. It is worth saving and posting on my web site.

garyowens

I play this file for anyone I am training. This is a prime example of what can happen if you don’t read your script before you go on the air live. You won’t be caught off guard like Gary Owen was with this sponsored holiday wish.

Bush Senior

Sometimes a blooper comes from the top. I can’t believe this blooper isn’t around the web in more places. I guess I am more use to the media exploiting the younger Bush president’s human errors. The elder Bush said it by mistake, Bill Clinton did it and it wasn’t a mistake.

old radio 001

The news comes fast and furious and often the race to get the story on the air first causes havoc for the poor guy who is suppose to read it before the competition.

old radio 006

If you think that last one caused havoc, this poor guy is trying to record his next headline break quickly for the DJ to play at it’s appointed time and the words just aren’t coming in the right order at all.

old radio 004

The network news guys are just as prone to bloop a news cast as the local announcer. Their tied gets tongued too.

Sammy Sneed

Sports reporters also get the chance to bloop their way through a quick sports summary too. Poor Sammy Snead just wished it hadn’t happened with his story.

Barry_White

When you give the script to a big star it’s best to make sure they see the copy before they start recording your information. Barry adds his comments about the copy he has to read. Caution: Barry speaks his &%#^* mind

Jerry and Dean

When the movie is done the promotions begin. Recording the commercials can be a long drawn out process, especially when the director wants you to make the commercial “sound conversational”. The director meant conversational without the added verbal jesting to each other. Caution their conversation isn’t radio safe. I feel sorry for the guy who had to edit this.

Chesterfields

I totally understand how this next blooper happens. Take a group of tired singers and announcers who have had to redo a national commercial over and over many times and it wears your brain down to pulp. Often someone will get a silly idea and the tape catches this rare moment making this a collectors dream. It has been years since cigarettes could advertise so this is really rare. This is one of my favorite bloopers.

betrayedlc8

This one is almost the same type of thing. A bunch of tired announcers who have had to record this commercial many times over and over. The frustration here seems to be all the over the top descriptive words some copywriter has put together. This type of descriptive over kill actually makes this movie trailer copy more prone to this sort of thing. You might notice the last voice cracking up making this even funnier. Caution: Many references to fertilizer.

Handi Ghandi

Bad jingles make my list too. The problem with a bad jingle is you hear it over and over every day day in and day out. In many cases this bad jingle gets locked into your brain but the end result doesn’t get you to rush out and buy the product it makes you run screaming away from it when you see the product on the shelf in the store.

old radio 002

An ad agency making a low budget jingle is one thing. A local radio station thinking they can make their own for a client is even more horrible  If the client can’t give you enough copy content to make a 60, don’t try to stretch it out by reading it to the beat of a stupid music bed. I read on the web site where  the guys who paid for the commercials insisted they read it. It goes downhill from there. I can’t even understand the business’ name until they start talking about what they sell.

old radio 007

That quick correct answer can win you some money. A contestant with a twisted mind will get you laughed off the stage. A poorly written quiz question with the twisted contestant mind can get you a blooper like this.

old radio 005

Late night talk shows usually have the 7 second delay on the phone system. Sometimes the host need one too.
